About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name throughout the globe.
After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. The album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and record a new album with the new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

After a world tour, drummer Bobby Kimball left the band and was replaced by drummer Fergie Frederiksen from Le Roux. The band continued to release their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album included a number songs, including "Stranger in Town".

After Isolation Toto went on a hiatus. The band members of the group the opportunity to pursue their own projects. In 1996, the group returned to tour and release an album. This was the first time all of the original members were on stage together for more than 10 years.
The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members were together on stage at the same time. After that, the group was again disbanded. Toto came back together for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise money for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 year that all of Toto's original members performed together. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

In 2008, Toto decided to take the time off from touring due to a string lineup changes and a series of disappointing releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 with the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to the band's top form, and the tour that came with it featured sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had rejoined the band.
